What is this?
HD-Microfooter is a simple fully customized module that displays your contact details, a copyright notice and a backlink at the foot of your website.
Is that it?
The contact details are formatted as an hCard, meaning web-browsers, search engines and web-applications can easily allow users to import your contact details with the click of a button. Microformats are gaining in popularity both with developers and with search engines (with Google in particular using it to populate their search results since 2009) and the hCard microformat specification is already active on over a million recognised websites.
What to do after installing?
Install the zip file via the administration install manager as per any other module. Once it has installed go to the module manager and select HD-Microfooter. Enable the module and allocate to a module position at the foot of your template.
Module positions vary depending on the template you are using but there is usually one allocated to the bottom of the page.
The Basic Layout
Use the module parameters to control the basic layout of the footer (text size, alignment, copyright message and whether a separator is used is not).
Contact Details
Use the advanced parameters to enable the various parts of your contact details and enter them into the relevant sections.
Ensure that the website address you enter does not include the http:// prefix (this will be added automatically).
When displayed on your live site the contact details will be wrapped in the relevant class id's that are recognized by the microformat specifications.
You can also specify if you wish the website and email address fields to be activated as hyperlinks or kept as standard text.
Backlink
Use other parameters to enable a backlink to your site.
Choose a credit for your link (eg. "Web Design by"), an URL to link to and a backlink title.
Microformats
The formatting of hCard is based on vcard, the standard for electronic business cards (.vcf) so even though on the live site your contact details will simply appear as a line of text at the bottom of the screen, because it adheres to the hCard microformat specification it has been marked up as contact details that are ready for adding to the viewer's address book.
For example, anyone using the Firefox add-on Tails Export will immediately be alerted that they can import your contact details with one click.
